How to enhance your Facebook Business Page

facebook changesIf you created your Facebook business page over a year ago, the chances are you haven’t made the most of the options now available to you for enhancing your page so that it better reflects your business and is set up to be visible to your potential clients.

All the enhancements available can be found under the ‘Settings’ menu.  Here are some of the essentials that you should be taking advantage of:

‘Preferred Page Audience’

This gives you the opportunity to determine a number of factors that are going to ensure your page is seen by the right people. Add the location of your audience, especially important for local businesses, then add the age bracket, gender and interests.  All these factors will help you target the right people.

‘Template’

There is now the option to change the layout of your page. The templates available are business, shopping, venues, non-profit, politician, services and restaurants.  Each template allows your business to showcase the most important features of your page, moving them to the most visible areas.  For example if you offer a number of services you can add each one to the top of your page.

‘Tabs on Page’

The ‘tabs’ are the series of headings that appear down the left hand side of your page e.g. About, Services, Contact.  By going to the ‘Edit Page’ option in ‘Settings’ you can reorder the headings moving the most important to the top of the list.

‘Buttons on Page’

Depending on which template you choose you can add call to action buttons to the top of your business page.  There are default options or you can select others such as ‘Call Now’, ‘Contact Us’ or ‘Message’. Make the most of these, they are particularly great on mobile allowing potential clients to call you with one click of a button.

All these Facebook features particularly enhance your page on mobile and with more than half of Facebook’s 100 million monthly active users accessing it via their mobile phones, Facebook know the importance of being optimised for mobile devices.

On a final note always make sure you have completed every detail in your ‘About’ section.  Each element is important and will help potential clients find your page and obtain the information they want. Having all the sections complete is going to make your business look professional and give a good impression to your viewers.

3 Alternative Ways to Market your Business

3 Alternative Ways to Market your Business

Back in December 2016 we posted an article called 3 Ways to Market Small Businesses.  Since then we have been thinking about more inventive and alternative ways to market your business. These examples should be used in conjunction with a decent website and social media strategy.

If you are to be seen as an expert in your area of business then you have to start shouting about it.  You can do this firstly by sharing tips via your blog and social media.  However the next step is a bit more involved, why not offer training.

We have delved into training in the past but more recently we have been working with Katy Potts (Computing and E-safety Lead for Children’s Services in Islington) on various projects including a school’s online reputation management, advice for the London Grid for Learning and talking to the Islington Youth Council about Twitter best practice.  Off the back of this, we have been invited to speak at London Grid for Learning’s Managing your school’s social media presence training session.  Training will bring you many rewards such as bringing exposure to your business but also improving your own skills and knowledge.

As Virtual Assistants we are used to supporting small businesses and can’t say no to any organising project.  That is why, for the past 3 years we have been volunteering in our community to put on local events.

However, you don’t have to go as far as we do to get recognition in your local area.  You could volunteer your time or skill to help with an aspect of an event (designing a logo, taking photographs, running a stall etc), donate an item for a tombola (we’ve often donated free social media consultations for example) or even a sum of money to help put on the event.

Whichever way you help these events, the organisers will be eternally grateful to you and will sing your praises on their website, social media and in their brochure.  It’s a win-win situation.

market your businessAwards

Can your business enter an award? Many London businesses are eligible for the Time Out Love London Awards, and winning can literally change your life.  We are very lucky in Muswell Hill to have 2016 Best Loved Shop Cheeses.  Owner Morgan McGlynn is now the resident cheese expert on Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch.

Other award-winning businesses in Muswell Hill include Travelwise and Kay & Kompany.

We’d also like to say congratulation to MEB the Motor Centre which was recently a finalist in the UK Blog Awards.

If you are a small business looking to attract new customers then we’d love to hear from you.  Red Desk offer social media strategy, brand exploration and social media training.
